The “Agriculture” component of the L.E.A.N. (Lifestyle, Exercise, Approach, Nutrition) program emphasizes cultivating a positive mindset while adopting healthy habits rooted in the fundamentals of growing. By learning how to grow and nurture fresh, natural foods, participants can support overall well-being and build a deeper connection to sustainable, health-focused living.
Nutrition
The “Nutrition” program emphasizes fostering a healthy and fresh lifestyle through our Soil to Boil initiative. Led by a Nigerian-American chef, the program highlights the use of plants and educates participants on eating based on blood type, seasonal eating, fusion cooking, and plant-based cooking for medicinal purposes. It also focuses on healing the everyday mindset and incorporating essential nutrients to support overall growth and development.
Empowering Girls to Lead!
Having a program for girls from diverse backgrounds, including African, Caribbean, and American cultures, that focuses on cultivating a healthy mindset and adopting healthy habits is essential for several reasons. It empowers girls to build self-confidence, embrace their unique identities, and prioritize their physical and mental well-being. Additionally, incorporating financial literacy into the program is a necessity, as it equips girls with the knowledge and skills to manage their finances, make informed decisions, and create a foundation for long-term financial independence. Teaching financial literacy alongside healthy habits ensures that these girls are not only prepared to thrive in their personal lives but are also empowered to succeed in their professional and economic endeavors.
Cultural Relevance: Tailoring the program specifically to African-Caribbean and American girls acknowledges and respects their unique cultural backgrounds, traditions, and needs. It recognizes that culture plays a significant role in shaping lifestyle choices and provides a contextually relevant approach to wellness.
Representation and Empowerment: By focusing on African-Caribbean and American girls, the program provides representation and promotes inclusivity. It allows participants to see themselves reflected in the program’s content, role models, and success stories. This representation fosters a sense of empowerment, self-confidence, and the belief that healthy lifestyles are attainable and relevant to their lives.
Addressing Health Disparities: African, Caribbean and American communities may face specific health disparities and challenges related to nutrition, physical activity, and mental well-being. By targeting this demographic with a tailored program, it aims to address these disparities and provide resources and support to overcome barriers to healthy living.
Mindset Shift: Cultivating a healthy mindset is crucial for long-term lifestyle changes. The program focuses on shifting attitudes and beliefs around health, body image, and self-care. It promotes positive self-perception, self-love, and resilience, fostering a healthy relationship with food, exercise, and overall well-being.
Holistic Approach: The Peace program emphasizes a holistic approach to wellness, recognizing that physical health is interconnected with mental, emotional, and social well-being. By addressing multiple facets of health, it provides participants with a comprehensive toolkit to improve their overall quality of life.
Long-Term Impact: By incorporating healthy habits into daily routines, participants can experience long-term benefits. These habits can positively influence their physical health, mental well-being, academic performance, self-esteem, and future life choices. The program aims to instill lifelong skills and knowledge that participants can carry with them into adulthood.
Plant Therapy Workshops
Plant therapy, also known as horticultural therapy or gardening therapy, is an approach that utilizes plants and gardening activities to improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being. When it comes to the nutrition aspect of a program, plant therapy plays a significant role in several ways. Plant therapy encourages individuals to engage in gardening and grow their own fruits, vegetables, and herbs. This hands-on involvement allows people to have direct access to fresh, nutrient-rich foods. Growing and consuming a variety of plant-based foods is crucial for obtaining essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals that support optimal nutrition and overall health. Many individuals struggle to consume an adequate amount of vegetables and fruits in their diet. Engaging with plants and spending time outdoors in nature can have a positive impact on mental and emotional well-being. Gardening involves various physical activities such as digging, planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting. These activities provide a moderate form of exercise, promoting physical fitness and overall well-being.
Soil to boil

The “Soil to Boil” program is an initiative aimed at promoting nutrition, gardening, and healthy cooking through an educational curriculum. Our primary focus is to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to grow their own food, make informed dietary choices, and prepare nutritious meals. We organize a variety of workshops, classes, and demonstrations for club members and the broader community, where participants can learn about planting, harvesting, and cooking healthy meals. To encourage participation, we offer incentives such as certificates, rewards, or recognition for individuals who actively engage in the program. In addition to our educational efforts, we actively engage with the community through various outreach initiatives. We promote the community garden and the “Soil to Boil” program through local media channels, social media platforms, and community newsletters. We also collaborate with schools, local organizations, and community centers to organize field trips, events, and educational sessions related to gardening and nutrition. Furthermore, we host community events at the garden, including farmers’ markets, cooking competitions, and health fairs, to foster community engagement and raise awareness about the numerous benefits of the project. Through these endeavors, we aim to create a healthier, more sustainable community that values nutrition and the joy of growing and cooking food.
